The End of an Era: Tad Geschickter's NASCAR Journey
In the fast-paced world of NASCAR, a name that has left an indelible mark is Tad Geschickter. For three decades, Geschickter was a prominent figure in the sport, first as a team owner in the Xfinity Series and later in the prestigious Cup Series. His journey, however, took an unexpected turn.
A Partnership with a Legend
Geschickter's team, co-owned with his wife Jodi, grew from strength to strength. In 2009, they joined forces with NBA legend Brad Daugherty, forming JTG Daugherty Racing. This partnership brought success and recognition, solidifying their place in NASCAR history.
A New Chapter Begins
Last year, Geschickter and his wife made a bold move. They decided to sell their stake in JTG Daugherty Racing, paving the way for a new era under Hyak Motorsports, led by principal owner Gordon Smith. But Geschickter, at 63, couldn't resist the allure of racing entirely.
His Brand Activation Maximizer (BAM) agency continues to manage Kroger's NASCAR endeavors. In an intriguing twist, Kroger has switched teams, opting to feature on all three RFK Racing Fords in 2025.
A Future Beyond Team Ownership
Despite his continued presence in the NASCAR garage, Geschickter doesn't envision himself as a team owner again. He candidly shares, "I don't have the same energy as when we started JTG. I'm not sure I can juggle multiple companies simultaneously. We'd be doing a disservice if we tried to get back into it. But you never say never. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and we strongly believe in the sport as a marketing platform."
And Here's the Controversial Part...
So, is Geschickter's decision to step away from team ownership a wise move, or is it a missed opportunity? Could his expertise and passion still drive success in the sport? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
